Message-scraping, user-tracking service Spy Pet shut down by Discord

Spy Pet, a service that offered entry to a wealthy database of allegedly greater than three billion Discord messages and particulars on greater than 600 million customers, has seemingly been shut down.

404 Media, which broke the story of Spy Pet’s choices, studies that Spy Pet appears largely shut down. Spy Pet’s web site was unavailable as of this writing. A Discord spokesperson instructed Ars that the corporate’s security crew had been “diligently investigating” Spy Pet and that it had banned accounts affiliated with it.

“Scraping our companies and self-botting are violations of our Phrases of Service and Neighborhood Pointers,” the spokesperson wrote. “Along with banning the affiliated accounts, we’re contemplating acceptable authorized motion.” The spokesperson famous that Discord server directors can regulate server permissions to stop future such monitoring on in any other case public servers.
