Vaccine-makers Moderna and Pfizer have now each submitted requests for the US Meals and Drug Administration to authorize fourth doses—second boosters—of their COVID-19 vaccines.
Pfizer, together with vaccine accomplice BioNTech, introduced Tuesday that they’d requested the FDA to authorize fourth doses for adults age 65 and above. The transfer adopted days of Pfizer CEO Albert Bourla saying in press interviews {that a} fourth shot is “needed” for everybody.
Late Thursday, Moderna introduced that it, too, had requested the FDA to authorize fourth doses—for all adults. Moderna addressed the broader request in its announcement, saying it’s supposed to “present flexibility” for the FDA and the Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention to resolve for themselves who ought to get a fourth dose—whether or not it is particular age teams and/or teams with greater dangers of illness.
