Illinois just made it possible to sue people for doxxing attacks

Final Friday, Illinois grew to become one of many few states to cross an anti-doxxing legislation, making it attainable for victims to sue attackers who “deliberately” publish their personally identifiable info with intent to hurt or harass them. (Doxxing is typically spelled “doxing.”)

The Civil Legal responsibility for Doxing Act, which takes impact on January 1, 2024, handed after a unanimous vote. It permits victims to get better damages and to request “a short lived restraining order, emergency order of safety, or preliminary or everlasting injunction to restrain and forestall the disclosure or continued disclosure of an individual’s personally identifiable info or delicate private info.”
