For self-driving automobiles, the free journey is over

For years, autonomous automobiles have operated in relative obscurity. With few automobiles on the street and a laissez-faire angle amongst authorities regulators, automakers and massive tech corporations have been free to check — and even commercially deploy — with little oversight.

Properly, these days are finished. In speedy succession, the Nationwide Freeway Visitors Security Administration (NHTSA) has opened investigations into nearly all the key firms testing autonomous automobiles in addition to those who supply superior driver-assist methods of their manufacturing automobiles. Tesla, Ford, Waymo, Cruise, and Zoox are all being probed for alleged security lapses, with the company analyzing tons of of crashes, a few of which have been deadly.
