Chief Scientist Ilya Sutskever leaves OpenAI six months after Altman ouster

On Tuesday night, OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever introduced that he’s leaving the corporate he co-founded, six months since he participated within the coup that quickly ousted OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. Jan Leike, a fellow member of Sutskever’s Superalignment workforce, is reportedly resigning with him.

“After virtually a decade, I’ve made the choice to go away OpenAI,” Sutskever tweeted. “The corporate’s trajectory has been nothing in need of miraculous, and I’m assured that OpenAI will construct AGI that’s each secure and helpful beneath the management of @sama, @gdb, @miramurati and now, beneath the wonderful analysis management of @merettm. It was an honor and a privilege to have labored collectively, and I’ll miss everybody dearly.”

Sutskever has been with the corporate since its founding in 2015 and is extensively seen as one of many key engineers behind a few of OpenAI’s greatest technical breakthroughs. As a former OpenAI board member, he performed a key function within the elimination of Sam Altman as CEO within the shock firing final November. Whereas it later emerged that Altman’s firing primarily stemmed from an influence wrestle with former board member Helen Toner, Sutskever sided with Toner and personally delivered the information to Altman that he was being fired on behalf of the board.
