Greater than 60 years after he was denied a chance to develop into America’s first Black astronaut, Ed Dwight lastly traveled into area Sunday with 5 different passengers on a 10-minute flight inside a Blue Origin capsule.
Dwight, a retired Air Drive captain and check pilot, had an opportunity to develop into the primary African American astronaut. He was considered one of 26 pilots the Air Drive beneficial to NASA for the third class of astronauts in 1963, however the company did not choose him. It took one other 20 years for America’s first Black astronaut, Guion Bluford, to fly in area in 1983.
“Every little thing they did, I did, and I did it effectively,” Dwight stated in a video launched by Blue Origin. “If politics had modified, I might have gone to area in some type of capability.”
