Newly raised considerations about lead-covered phone cables put in throughout the US many a long time in the past are placing strain on firms like AT&T and Verizon to determine the areas of all of the cables and account for any well being issues probably attributable to the poisonous steel.

US Sen. Edward Markey (D-Mass.) wrote a letter to the USTelecom trade commerce group this week after a Wall Avenue Journal investigative report titled, “America Is Wrapped in Miles of Poisonous Lead Cables.” The WSJ stated it discovered proof of greater than 2,000 lead-covered cables and that there “are doubtless much more all through the nation.”

WSJ reporters had researchers accumulate samples as a part of their investigation. They “discovered that the place lead contamination was current, the quantity measured within the soil was highest straight below or subsequent to the cables, and dropped inside a number of toes—an indication the lead was coming from the cable,” the article stated.
