Again in 2019, (partly) in honor of the announcement of Star Trek: Picard, Ars staffers held a casual tasting session to pattern two bottles of official Star Trek Wines, a collaboration between CBS Shopper Merchandise and Wines That Rock. And the wines had been…. much better than we anticipated, though very a lot over-priced.
Picard has now wrapped its second season, with a 3rd presently in manufacturing, and the parents behind Star Trek Wines have expanded their assortment from two varieties to 6. So a second casual wine tasting was clearly so as. And who higher to assist us on this noble endeavor than Q himself—aka actor John de Lancie—and The Orville author Andre Bormanis, who launched his profession as a science advisor on TNG? They joined a contemporary group of tasters (eight individuals in all) on a cool late spring night in Los Angeles, the place the nibbles had been plentiful and the dialog flowed freely. (Wine assessments had been nameless, in step with the gathering’s super-casual vibe. And the wine was bought out of pocket, not gifted for promotional functions.)
Let’s begin by revisiting the unique two varieties. First up: a 2017 Sonoma Valley zinfandel, described as a mix of 87 p.c zinfandel, blended with petite sirah and only a trace of syrah.. The packaging performs up the fictional connection, claiming the wine is produced underneath the United Federation Particular Reserve Label, “blended by our intergalactic sommelier and designed to suit the palates of a number of planets.” (The again label tasting notes provides “Andalorian spice” to the outline only for enjoyable.)
