US tightens commerce restrictions on Chinese language chipmaker SMIC

The US Commerce Division has added China’s largest chipmaker, Semiconductor Manufacturing Worldwide Company (SMIC), to its entity checklist, after it decided there an “unacceptable danger” that tools SMIC obtained might be used for army functions, Reuters reported.

The transfer blocks US laptop chip corporations from exporting know-how to SMIC with out an export license. SMIC is the most recent main Chinese language agency to be placed on the entity checklist; the Trump administration added telephone producer Huawei to the checklist in 2019.
