Ubisoft apologized over the weekend for a lower scene in Tom Clancy’s Elite Squad, a cellular sport launched final week, which used a raised fist image related to the Black Lives Matter motion to characterize an in-game terrorist group masquerading as a populist entrance.
The lower scene in query reveals a world descending into chaos and introduces UMBRA as a “faceless group that desires to construct a brand new world order” and “a brand new risk [emerging] to reap the benefits of escalating civil unrest.” The group “claims to advertise an egalitarian utopia to achieve well-liked help, whereas behind the scenes… organiz[ing] lethal terrorist assaults to generate much more chaos and weaken governments at the price of many harmless lives.”
Whereas the intro’s complete over-the-top (and maybe overly topical) idea was roundly mocked on social media over the weekend, the particular use of the raised fist image in UMBRA imagery drew condemnation from many.
