A gaggle of Senate Democrats is looking on the US Commerce Division to observe Europe’s lead in forcing all smartphone producers to construct units that adhere to a common charging customary.
In a Thursday letter addressed to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) — together with Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) and Bernie Sanders (I-VT) — demanded that the division develop a method to require a typical charging port throughout all cellular units.
The letter comes per week after European Union lawmakers reached a deal on new laws forcing all smartphones and tablets to be geared up with USB-C ports by fall 2024.
