Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka has been given a suspended jail sentence and fines of round $1.2 million (or 173 million yen) after he was discovered responsible of insider buying and selling, in response to a report from Japanese information outlet Jiji (through Polygon). Whereas the courtroom handed out a 2.5-year jail sentence, Jiji experiences that it was suspended by 4 years.
Meaning Naka shouldn’t wind up behind bars anytime quickly, as judges sometimes waive the jail sentence if the defendant doesn’t commit any extra crimes throughout that time period. Naka was arrested twice final 12 months for his involvement in two separate insider buying and selling incidents, each of which passed off in 2020 when Naka was working at Sq. Enix.
