Over the following few months, Montana should show that it has the ability to do what the federal authorities has to this point solely tried and didn’t do: ban TikTok.
Whereas TikTok and a number of other state-based app customers have claimed that the state’s TikTok ban is unconstitutional and improperly makes an attempt to control US-China international relations, Montana not too long ago raised its greatest arguments to uphold the ban. In a courtroom submitting final week, Montana sought to persuade a US district courtroom to reject TikTok’s movement to delay the statewide ban from taking impact on January 1, 2024, till the federal case is resolved. Past disputing the relevance of constitutional considerations, Montana took a seemingly hostile stance, calling out TikTok for alleged “hypocrisy” and evasiveness of US authorities making an attempt to guard People’ information from international spying.
“TikTok’s obvious place is it can’t be regulated—by anybody,” Montana argued, accusing TikTok of enjoying “quick and free” with courts and improperly shifting away from an argument that TikTok made that acquired Donald Trump’s ban overturned.
