Uber and Lyft are committing wage theft by misclassifying drivers as unbiased contractors, California’s labor commissioner alleges in separate lawsuits in opposition to the businesses. The classification of drivers as freelance employees has disadvantaged them of “a number of authorized protections in violation of California labor legislation,” the lawsuits say.
