Assessment: WandaVision sticks the touchdown with a really Marvel-esque finale

For all its touted meta-elements celebrating totally different TV many years, WandaVision wrapped up its nine-episode run in basic Marvel style, with Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda and Paul Bettany’s Imaginative and prescient valiantly defending their suburban nuclear household from the nefarious forces lined up in opposition to them. It was a satisfying, fairly shifting finale to this imaginative collection. However followers anticipating a shock big-name cameo—Benedict Cumberbatch’s Physician Unusual was a favourite of the pre-finale rumor mill—have been dissatisfied.

Frankly, I was skeptical of the WandaVision idea when the studio supplied a quick sneak peek throughout D23 Expo 2019, Disney’s annual fan extravaganza. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige—a fan of basic sitcoms—envisioned the collection as a love letter to the golden age of tv, with every episode channeling a sitcom type from a specific decade. Head author Jac Schaeffer (Captain Marvel, Black Widow) championed the idea from the beginning, regardless of a quick backlash in opposition to the perceived silliness of the title. Schaeffer thought viewers would change their minds as soon as they really noticed the collection, and he or she was proper: WandaVision presently boasts a 92 p.c recent ranking on Rotten Tomatoes. It even gained over my skeptical soul.
