A jury this week awarded $228.5 million to seven plaintiffs of their case towards Nevada-based water firm Actual Water, which offered alkaline water tainted with hydrazine, a extremely poisonous chemical present in gas for rockets and spacecraft.

The plaintiffs included a 7-month-old boy who was hospitalized with extreme liver failure and almost wanted a liver transplant. One other was a 69-year-old girl who was hospitalized for liver failure after ingesting the water for years. She died within the hospital on November 11, 2020.

They’re amongst round 100 individuals who say they’ve suffered acute liver toxicity and failure from the water and have filed lawsuits towards Actual Water, in response to lawyer Will Kemp. In an interview Friday, Kemp instructed Ars he represents just a little over 60 of the plaintiffs, together with the seven within the case that obtained a jury verdict this week. It was the primary case to go to trial.
